SANITATION AND HYGIENE WEEK WORTHY PRIZING
As we commemorate world water day, sanitation and hygiene week brings exclusive prizes to a complementary celebration at Bunambutye Mabanga Baptism Church in Bunambutye Subcounty, Mbale District.
This program is funded under conditional grant in alliance with ministry of water and environment annually. Overseen by rural water and sanitation center three at regional level.
With a total number of 774 households, 17 households were selected for the outstanding performance, walking away with enticing prizes upon their hard work in ensuring sanitation and hygiene practices prevail towards improved lives in communities.
Munialo George 72 years old, a resident and VHT of Nangono village, Bunambutye parish, Bunabutye Subcounty welcomed the district chairman for mbale district, Mafabi Muhammad accompanied by the health department staff.
A 40 household village with a lead from their VHT and a trainer had an inspiring story to share right his childhood about hygiene.
His appeal sounded a recipe of success calling upon the community to embrace and follow health guidelines through teams that do the mentoring and guide them on model homesteads at community level.
Munialo argued communities to use the mosquito nets well and also ensure all children born get immunized to live longer.
"The emphasis today is to work with all stakeholders in improving sanitation and hygiene with the aim of attaining an open defecation free community".
All villages of lwaboba parish in Bunambutye Subcounty participated in this program with enrollment at 81 percent in the ten parishes.
This program also highlighted challenges with no hand washers, sanitation facilities with temporal materials and inadequate roofing materials and logs for covering the pits.
Kakai Esther, the Senior health inspector at the water office made a call to all sub counties and most especially Bunambutye to take the program from where the water office has ended and continue sensitizing the communities to enhance sanitary facilities usage.
The district chairman, Mafabi Muhammad appreciated the best performers and encouraged the rest of the communities to emulate similar practices while handing over prizes to the two people for outstanding performance.
He made this call while addressing the people of Bunambutye Subcounty at Mabanga Baptism Church during Sanitation and Hygiene week.
Nakawala pledged to ensure sanitation in households upholds and remains sound.
On the very note, Nakawala called upon parents to engage in sustainable activities for the betterment of families.
She encouraged the communities to remain resilient and stay relevant for the good of the program.
This function was attended by a magnitude of political, extension staff, VHTs, community duelers, support supervisors and development partners of Mbale district.
