Press release @ St. Andrews Cathedral
As the eastern region Albinism cluster prepares to hold its celebrations on 27th next week, this year's theme highlights the urgent need to prevent skin cancer in persons with albinism through awareness, screenings, and sunscreen access.
The risk of skin cancer is extremely high for persons with albinism, and the lack of access to sunscreen, protective gear, as well as skin cancer screening and treatment can lead to foreseeable, yet preventable deaths.

The Eastern region executive director for people with albinism, Negesa Elizabeth registered the achievements as an indicator of a transformative path towards better and sustainable living!
The executive director says the mileage started in 2014 when the United Nations relied behind their umbrella with the reflection of awareness in communities where albinism dominates.
Many children have dropped out of school because of stigma and marginalisation in the public space.
Negesa on behalf of the persons with Albinism in Elgon region appreciated the government and implementing partners for the continuous support.
Biometric Scanner Detect
However she appealed to government to help people with albinism in the ID renewal process because our eyes don't detect in the Irish biometrics scanner, leaving people with albinism not being registered as citizens
Kakai Oliver the representative of PWDs in Mbale district, appealed to the general public to value both normal and disabled children as one.
Even when the grants are inadequate, government has never looked back in supporting the families in this space.

Livelihood has a successful storyline on the lives of people living with albinism.
